The Life and Times of Gordon Sumner

Our guest was born Gordon Sumner in Walsen, Northumberland. He grew up near the Walsen shipyard which made a deep and lasting impression on him. Sting moved to London in 1977 where he met Stuart Copeland and formed the police. Their unique sound fused reggae, punk, jazz and rock elements. They had five chart-topping albums, one four Grammys and two Brit Awards. The trio would reunite for a hugely successful world tour in 2007.
