The Dawn of Danish Identity

Danish nationalism was based on Vikings and the glorious past of the Danish Empire. The identity as warriors, it was really completely impossible to maintain after the defeat in 1860. Only reason we survived the war was basically because Britain didn't want Prussia to take it all. And then we decided that we were a little bit more democratic. We were a little more tolerant, a humane and intelligent than the rest of the world. Of course, we also have been paparians once, but we passed through it. And now we are this tolerant human society. I find it completely interesting that this has nothing to do with our history. The legends of our history, yes, but not our real history
