Lee: It's very hard for people to recreate what it was like after 9-11 and why the Bush administration did some of the things it did. Lee: The surge is a great case study on the national security advisor going beyond merely the policy coordination role, but actually getting into the policy development role. And again, it's, you know, national security advisors have multiple hats to wear, while also being very attentive to serving the president. So well, this is much too serious this conversation. I want to tell two stories, if I can, at least one anecdote and story.
