John's Theology of the Apocalypse
In the description of Babylon in chapter 18, Babylon the Great is fallen. It's agreed that this Babylon is in fact Rome. So these are all clues that John has the Romans in mind when he's writing this. But he also has in mind their destruction. So systematically he goes through all of these different things and shows how they are going to be destroyed from the beast itself to the very sea. This occurs the end of the world in chapters 19 and following. The first 19 chapters had been concerned with depicting the punishment that still happens in time by being intertwined with the Roman Empire. Now I'd like to turn in the final part of this talk to the main point of Revelation which is
