The indictments in the salem witch trials use the same language as england's witchcraft act 16 o four, which called for the death penalty for anyone who invoked evil spirits. The judges relied heavily on the so called spectral evidence, a tax that only the afflicted could see in experience. This, of course, was exactly what led to almost all the executions to come to day.
