The Importance of Private Landowners in the Management of Wildlife
In Zimbabwe hunting of elephants was allowed and at least for a period the people who took the elephants legally in Zimbabwe could sell the ivory on world markets. But when resources land wildlife are owned privately there is a strong incentive to manage it well so that it's a continuing source of value. In Kenya where they weren't privately owned nobody really owned them so nobody had a good strong incentive to stop the poaching. For human beings to flourish we need the incentives that come with private ownership because private owners can also be held accountable when they misuse it.
