Congress is supposed to be the regulatory a arm, i think, of the federal government. It's not the supreme courti's not the executive branch. Congress likes not being in charge because they don't have to take any of the blame for how it actually turns out in practice. And i think the lack of accountability of the current administrative state is deeply alarming. So you can see almost one type of error every two or three minutes that could lead to errors like this. We need anadministrative state that's effective and accountable. That includes stepping into areas where it doesn't need to step into.
Economist and author Arnold Kling talks about improving government regulation with EconTalk host Russ Roberts. Kling suggests ways to improve the administrative state--the agencies and regulatory bodies that often write the regulations that they enforce. The conversation concludes with Kling's idea for holding public intellectuals accountable for their pronouncements.
