The author of the book "Zoonotic Diseases" says flu is likely to be next big disease. There are three different types of influenza, divided into subtypes based on two proteins: hemaglutinin or H and neuraminidase. Influenza A has a high propensity to mutate and to change, which is why you have to get a new flu shot every year. It's not the same as it was last year.
