The 4% rule on the spending side assumes that you are increasing your spending every year by the rate of inflation. Michael Kitsis wrote a blog post about this in 2014 that everybody seems to ignore. It says that based on just that factor, we are probably telling people to save 20% more than they need in retirement. Cush! Idiot!
