The Second Temple Period
The Old Testament was probably formed in the Second Temple period, under the suzerainty of the Persians. The temple at Jerusalem is again destroyed in 70 CE, and its treasures bought to Rome for the victory parade. Many scholars deny that the single kingdom of Israel Judah ruled by King David ever actually existed historically.
