Sequoia was illiterate, but he knew of writing from time in... as a soldier. He tried out different ways of writing and he settled on a syllabary for Cherokee ... because that ended up sort of working the best for him. Not everyone in the community was happy with how he's spending his time with apparently his wife once destroyed his work.
