Over 99% of all trans-oceanic traffic goes through undersea cables. Capals underpin our daily lives in so many ways, because everything today is digitized and networked. On January 15, 2022, the Hanga Tonga Hanga High-Pay volcano, located in the Pacific Ocean, exploded. This eruption severed the cable network that linked Tonga to the rest of the world.
