The Importance of Assurance

The point of the Christian gospel is to look outside of ourselves. We are often more focused on our external experience for the assurance of our salvation rather than the anchor and foundation of our faith who is Christ. When we do that, when we can't look beyond ourselves, then where is Jesus in that whole scenario?
