Introduction
The common feature in all the depressive disorders is a sad, empty or irritable mood and clinically significant associated symptoms. There are of ways we can diagnose depressive disorders, but we need to make sure that what we're dealing with is actually a depressive disorder. For major depressive disorder, a person has to have five symptoms that are causing clinically significant distress for two or more weeks; it's not due to a substance or a medical condition.
