How Do Peas and Beans Engage With Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria?
Giles: peas and beans have learned to engage with these nitrogen fixing bacteria. He says they convert nitrogen from the atmosphere into a reactive form of nitrogen that plants can use. We know pretty well at least a lot of the genetic components that are involved in that process, he says. Giles: Now we're in the process of putting those genes from taking them from peas, putting them into our cereal crops.
