What's the Way Out?

As a man, you have to be extraordinarily lucky to find your way between those two terrible fates. Most men are either the clumsy fool or the cold libertine. So what's the way out? Well, she has losophical answer and political answers too. The philosophical answer is, women must be subjects. They cannot simply be objects. But if both sides of the relationship are able to do this, there is the possibility of reaching a new kind of understanding. And in the trap, all there is, to use an existential term, is bad faith. All there is is a refusal, a failure to face up to the essence of the circumstance.
