Idealized Institutions and the Transition to the Principal

This chapter explores how ancient Roman institutions are idealized and how problems in the contemporary period are often attributed to a failure to live up to those institutions. It also discusses the transition from the late Republic to the principal and the struggles faced by Roman citizens.
