Cabot's Voyage to North America

Cabot and his men sighted the North American coast on June 24, 1497. He believed he had reached Asia just like Christopher Columbus had done five years earlier. Cabot claimed the lands for the King of England and raised the Venetian and papal banners as well. After a few weeks of scouting things out, Cabot would head back to Europe.
