Catfishing in Australia
Theresa Mastern requested that a Coronial inquest be conducted to determine the true role Camilla's actions played in Renee's suicide. The act of assuming a fake online identity in order to target a specific victim is known as catfishing. Catfishing itself isn't considered a criminal offence in Australia unless it's done for the purpose of an illegal act, such as fraud or financial gain. Even though Camilla's IDAN was clearly Braden's Petiri, she hadn't used the fake account for any of these punishable offences. Therefore, there was nothing that New South Wales police could charge her with. A criminal lawyer told a current affair.
