The Importance of Security in the UK
Parliaments in any kind of democracy have often been synonymous with protest. How do you balance the need for security and the need for protest is another important thing? It's an ongoing contemporary problem because we had certainly a political settlement from about the 1890s onwards, right up until only a couple of years ago. And it does seem as though the cordon for protesting anywhere near Parliament is moving further and further at you can't go any closer than halfway up White Hall unless it's a mass demonstration.
