Hayek thought that there was something deeply sinister about this socialist cult of scientific expertise. He came across various left-wing scientists, JBS Haldane and Hyman Levy,. Joseph Needham, J.D. Bernal who were scientists and communists. They believed in socialism because they believed in engineering; a socialist society would be built by experts.
