The Effect of Reversal on the Ego

Jude Law's character in the film is confronted with his shallow, exaggerated ego. I almost wonder if that like reversal, if this alone, if this can be a source of melancholy. In mourning, there is definitely the sense in which we have loved and we have invested into this other person. And so taking back in that energy that we've put out into others and working through that itself.
