In 1942, Charles Lindbergh told Americans who got angry at news stories of horrific Nazi atrocities to ask who owns and who influences the newspaper, the newspaper, and radio. A poll conducted that same month found that 74% of Americans agree that Nazi Germany needed to be destroyed in order for the US to remain free and democratic. In 1944 when Hitler's third Reich was on its last legs, Vice President Henry A. Wallace wrote a description of American fascism that is just as relevant 80 years later as it was then.
