The lack of democracy in contemporary china is a hot button issue. The idea that you could have free markets without necessarily having modern democratic institutions strikes me as er quite possible, and not at all necessarily some sort of oxymoronic situation. China represents, i think, for my perspective, a clear example of this. I dont think people really thought too much about it beforehand, and now they see, oh, my goodness,. You cant actually have all these open markets without, without the standard democratic infrstructure that we have now. Is that a reasonable way to look at itd am i grossly misguided in that?
