Frank Johnson was a nationally famous black musician fiddler bandleader. He and his music attracted black and white audiences in Wilmington, North Carolina. The fusionist politics of the day attracted black andwhite voters. But in 1898, this Wilmington was destroyed in an orgy of violence that ousted its democratically elected biracial government.
