The Importance of Authority in Hate Speech
In many of Austin's examples it makes a difference who is saying the words even in that example I just gave maybe it could only have been an order if the first man was in a position of authority relative to the second man. So what this tells us is that certain sorts of speech acts can do something when they're said by a person who is authoritative relative to the hearer and will not do the same thing if they're not.
