The Importance of Consciousness

It does sound like you're asking about what is there an analog for the default mode network. And I think that's daydreaming, mind wandering. But it does happen with all people who are awake at rest. What intelligent activities require consciousness to do? Are there any behaviors that directly imply the presence of consciousness in your opinion? Or are there none?
