The Definition of Republic in American Politics
America is a constitutional republic, not a democracy. Democracy just sas we're all in the same page. Was coined in the fifth century b c to define the political systems of the greek city states. Ultimately, democracy is about consent and accountability. There's an old winston churchill quote that says, no one pretends that democracy is perfect or all wise. The theory of democracy is, although it can be corrupted for individual means, democracy always gets the chance to correct itself.
