Scotty Moore also used a custom-built Echo Sonic amp, so he could get a similar guitar sound on stage to the one he'd got in the studio with Sam Phillips. Carl Perkins did play a Les Paul at first, including on Blue Suede's shoes, but he switched to a Gibson ES5 and got himself an Echo Sonic from the same person who made Scotty Moore's. For acoustic guitar, people generally either used a Martin, like Elvis Presley, or Ray Eventon, who was the session rhythm player who doubled Don Avoli's guitar in the studio.
