The History of the Hadrian's Wall

The lawless Armstrong family were responsible for much of Hadrian's War. They effectively stopped any research on the war because they attacked travellers. It is not until 1603, when Scotland and England are ruled by same king, that things become more civilised. Around now, first efforts are made to preserve what is left of the wall.
