Is There a Gatekeeping Around Identity?

I think what's important to name is the sort of gatekeeping around certain kinds of identities and why that gatekeeping exists. Most of the time, it's about a perceived security in that in-group,. Like, if I'm in a room with a bunch of other trans people, there is a level at which my transness statistically is safer in that space than it might be elsewhere. And so I don't like have to litigate whether they're a real person or not? It just doesn't make sense.
