The War Between Russia and Chechny
Alex last has been speaking to a woman who lived in the chechen capital, grogny at the time. The city still bore the scars of a devastating war fought by chechen separatist against russia which ran from 19 94 to 96. That conflict killed tens of thousands of civilians and effectively ended in defeat for russian forces. But many in moscow wanted to avenge that humiliation and bring chechni back under rRussian control. Alex last says: 'Everyone was actually waiting for a second war'
