The Structure of Law School
Law students often go on to inhabit positions of leadership without once having been forced to engage with the implications of the hard wired structures established in 17 87 and rarely amended since then. The university of texas, where i teach, does require seven hours of constitutional law. And i think we require more than any other school in the country that i know of. In some case, i believe that the only real reason to require constitutional law is citizen education. That for be and for worse, as tokeville pointed out 200, almost 200 years ago, lawyers disproportionately become civic leaders,. They ought to know something about our basic constitutional order.
