The Importance of Moral Philosophy

Terrence Owen says there are some things that we owe to people that we don't owe to them. This is not something you need to justify by reference to anyone's good, he argues. Aristotle stands pretty strongly on the interventionist side of this debate thinking that learning to live a good life is something that can be taught and that it's an appropriate function for a state to undertake. The model of identification of interest and friendship extends to a much wider group of people than just friends or family according to Aristotelian theory.
