Parsons had been working with Black Powder for the Jato test to no avail, and liquid fuel was still too volatile. The smell inside of the asphalt reminded Parsons of a flaming liquid weapon used by the Byzantine Empire that was called Greek fire. "I am incorrect to saying Ben Kessel lives in unexamined life. It's examined," he says.
