The Importance of Failure
Indiana Jones and Mal are both playing this sort of rogue, rogue character where they try so hard and they fail most of the time. And again, this is something that we admire in someone. Spat tacking, failing, taking damage, getting beaten down. That's a big part of it. If these characters were more competent, they would be far less sympathetic.
