In utero, it is testosterone that causes the right hemisphere to expand. In female brains, there's more overlap between the left and right. This has a consequence that if you have a stroke in a woman, she's more likely to be able to recover using another part of the other hemisphere than a man. And I think that because from an evolutionary point of view, women are absolutely essential, and they're the ones that carry on the species.
