Quill Lawrence: Marla had an incredibly simple message. It doesn't matter if you were for or against the war, my sense of opinion should not be harmed in conflict. She rejected the idea that war is hell and innocent people get hurt and there's nothing you can do about it. In 2002, after Marla got back from Afghanistan, she convinced the Senate to appropriate millions of dollars for Afghan victims of war. As soon as the war started in Iraq, she turned her attention to civilians there. And we'll hear the toll that that would take on her.
