Men Judge Each Other on Their Mastery of Themselves

Men judge each other by how good they are at doing the job that they need to do. In my research about the history of bachelorhood in the U.S., like in the 1600s, you weren't considered a man unless you people thought of you as being a master. And we've kind of lost that idea of men valuing men for their mastery in a particular skill set or whatever.
