Stephanie Bret's book is not a study of the patristic period. She says that luther and calvin were trying to say things, their intention was very close to thomas's intentions. But i think they didn't quit do as good of a job in articulating what christians had believed from the beginning. And so transubstantiation are a pair of good garden shears that trimmed those bad branches backnd kept it closer to the heart ofwhat christians had always believed. A bret: Sacraments are symbols that' ecause god needs to speak to us things that we can experience.
