Encounter with the Great-Great-Grandmother
In this chapter, the protagonist, Irene, encounters her great-great-grandmother, whom she believed to be a dream. Her great-great-grandmother explains that she purposely didn't want to be found by Irene's caregiver, Lootie. They discuss the disbelief that Lootie and others would have if they saw the great-great-grandmother. As they talk, the old lady continues spinning a thread and reveals that she is spinning a special spider web. Irene expresses curiosity about the web and her great-great-grandmother offers to show her bedroom.
