The Drag Capital of the World

In the early 70s in San Francisco, you have the cockets and then immediately after in Sydney, you have Sylvia and the synthetics. They share an utterly new aesthetic, which was called politely gender bending or less politely gender fuck. It was the era of David Bowie and Mick Jagger and Lou Reed. And it was liberating for the audience in a time when people felt that they had grown up according to the rules. But from what I've read about both groups, they were, let's say, unprofessional.
