Emotional abuse is severly damaging and can cause long-term health problems including anxiety, depression, low self-worth, and suicidal ideation. Today I discuss how to identify emotional abuse. I give many examples from my own experience in a dysfunctional marriage, and I share how I sought help to grow in emotional maturity so I could find my way out of the unhealthy relationships in my life.
Discussing examples of emotional/mental/psychological abuse is self-care for me today. It helps me validate my experience as a survivor of this invisible sort of trauma. Many people in my life, including therapists, didn't understand what I was going through back then and still I feel gaslit by society about this issue today. I hope my sharing of these experiences helps you feel validated towards taking yourself and your situation seriously.
