How Long Will You Spend on a Column?
I remember at one stage, me and Matthew Norman were the most prolific columnists in Britain. I think we each had five columns per week. And when you've got, when you're doing a column a day, then you get into the habit of writing them fairly quickly. But with the internet, that obviously becomes a lot easier. Generally speaking, now that I'm down to one or two columns a week, I usually spend about three and a half, four hours writing a column. Depending on how intellectually ambitious I'm being, how difficult the subject matter is, how little or how much I know about it, et cetera.
