The Effect of Melanocytes on Hair Color

The reason that people have colored hair are because of these stem cells called melanocytes. They produce the pigment, it gets ejected into your hair and that's what gives you hair's color. A research team out of the NYU Grossman School of Medicine was looking at what causes gray hair to go gray. The idea is that if these melanocyte are getting stuck in a hair bulb, they're not getting the protein signal. And that is eventually what's responsible for your hair color, not showing up anymore.
