By the early 1970s, there was a lot of cynicism and frustration about AI. The techniques that were being used at the time just didn't really scale beyond a few toy problems. But like all technology, I suppose, you end up down dead ends. Psych is often considered to be one of the biggest failed experiment in AI but it actually holds up as the modern Google knowledge graph.
