"I was a master at the art of self deception," says Ove. "My biggest thing in my early twenties was, i don't know who i am." The idea bipassing pain in order to achieved some zen state of goodness is incredibly appealing to me", writes Ove. 'Cult life affords you somebody to tell you if you do this, think that,' he adds. "'If you have unaddressed trauma and are going to take ownership over it?' That's what cults appeal to us for.' He continues: 'How could anybody get their brain washed from scratch with nothing going on? And how could anybody?"
