The English Habeas Corpus Act Was a Second Magna Carta
The founders championed the habeas corpus act. They glorified it. Blackstone called it a second magna carta. That's a big deal. The crown, leading up to the revolution, denied and vetoed effort on the part of colonies to adopt the act for themselves. Hethey felt as though they were being denied, the jury trial, right? Denied these important protections by the crown.
