In the fifties, in America there was a huge ideological war against communism. Senator mac carthy ran an anti-communist 'house on a house of unamerican activities' It was a government run tribunal where they would investigate private american citizens or businesses whom they suspected of being communists. So what happened was, because this george donderow had done his art history and looked at the radical roots of ab abstract expressionism, it got in front of the houseof on American activities.
