I See a God Coming Up Out of the Earth

In first samuel 28, when king saul goes to consult the witch of indor and asks her to call up the departed soul of the prophet samuel. She sees an elohem out of the earth, and saul asks, what does this elohim look like? And she says, he's an old man wrapped in a robe. And saul concludes, yep, that's samuel. The fact saul is prepared to accept this elohem as samuel shows us that the term elohem was broad enough to cover the souls of departed human beings.
